The Singing Head
The Singing Head is the solo project of Aris Siafas, singer and co-writer of Matisse and Hometaping.
Aris Siafas was born in 1977 in Athens. Initially, he studied composition and English literature and later he got his MA degree in Musicology (Popular Music Research) from Goldsmiths University of London. In particular, his field of inquiry is the negotiation of gender through voice in western pop song in relation to the absence of this negotiation in Greek pop song after the advent of the laiko genre in Greece. He has been vocalist and co-writer in the alternative pop duo Hometaping and in the indie pop-rock band Matisse since 1999. With these bands he has opened the shows of Soft Cell, Suede, Tori Amos, the Air, James, Kaiser Chiefs, Garbage, Marilyn Manson, Puressence et al. He has composed music for the theatre (Tôt Tard Theatre Company) and for cinema (Yellow city, Superiorite, 240). He has taken part in performances as a composer, performer and lecturer in the Athens Biennale 2011 and 2013 as well as in an academic context.
